Outdoor enthusiasts, including singles and families, love this Colorado Rockies foothills community with a population of about 14,700 residents. It encompasses rural as well as suburban neighborhoods from South Simms Street on the east stretching west across the C-470 freeway to Evergreen and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, part of a mountain park owned by the City of Denver. On the north, a sliver of the zip code area reaches into the Green Mountain neighborhood. The southern boundary is the Crow Hill area of unincorporated Jefferson County.
Old Morrison is named for George Morrison, a stone mason who platted the town in 1874. The town is broken into two parts: The northern chunk crosses C-470 and is nestled up to the historic Bandimere Speedway. The southern portion is northwest of Indian Hills just above I-285. The most populous portion of unincorporated Morrison is in the suburban neighborhoods east of C-470.
Aside from providing rapid access to skiing, hiking, mountain biking and camping in the Rocky Mountains, the portion of Morrison tucked up against the foothills is a launch location for whitewater tours. It's also a great place to view dinosaur fossils layered in the rocky of an area called Dinosaur Ridge, just north of old Morrison.
For those who love a good gym workout, the Morrison area is served by a number of large recreation centers run by the Foothills Park and Recreation District. Another major amenity of the area is its many schools that are part of the highly praised Jefferson County Public Schools.
